Oral Surgery & Socket Grafting

At Gallant Dental Group, our goal is to save every tooth for you.

But there are times when the only treatment option is to have the tooth removed or extracted. Before proposing an extraction, we will do everything we can to make sure we have exhausted all other treatment options for you.

There are many reasons why you may need a tooth extraction:

  • Periodontal disease has loosened the tooth
  • Removal of teeth is necessary for future orthodontic treatment
  • A cracked or fractured tooth needs to be removed
  • A tooth has a large cavity that prevents a filling or crown from being placed

We know that losing a tooth is difficult, but we offer many options for tooth replacement to ensure that you will be able to continue to smile confidently and enjoy life as before.

Socket Grafting

Dr. Richie Gallant offers socket grafting, or ridge preservation, to all of his patients following the removal of a tooth.

Once you have a tooth removed, if you leave the area to heal without reinforcement from a socket graft, you could lose valuable bone height and bone width in the area. Dental implants are an excellent treatment option for missing teeth, but to ensure a successful outcome, the ridge, or area where the implant will go, needs to be as thick and strong as possible.

By choosing to have a socket graft, a procedure in which bone is placed into the empty space created by the tooth, you are setting yourself up for a much more successful and esthetic result when you have that tooth replaced.

Socket grafting is a simple and painless procedure that we complete at the time of your extraction – no extra appointment or numbing is necessary. Once the tooth is atraumatically removed, we take a bone graft and place it in the empty space. This bone promotes quick healing, reduces your risk of dry socket formation, and sets you up for a great result when that tooth is replaced in the future.
